Amit is an experienced scientist, specializing in protein biochemistry. He got his PhD at Columbia University, where he investigated the structure-function of a small molecule that modulates the ryanodine receptor, a calcium channel vital to muscle contraction. Later, for his postdoctoral work, Amit studied how the biochemical properties of the bacterial actin homolog MreB and affect its ability to maintain cell shape.
In addition, Amit is passionate about promoting interactions between academia, business and the pharmaceutical industry. He has been involved in communicating with industry and university patent offices and has recently completed a Mount Sinai Innovation Partners (MSIP) fellowship that focused on entrepreneurship, commercialization and innovation.
